Shopping and marketplace scams: check before paying
Recognise misleading online shops, fabricated listings and payment requests that bypass buyer protection.

Inspect the commercial context
A polished store, familiar product photographs and optimistic reviews are easily reproduced. Look for verifiable seller details and realistic contact information.
Check the terms for delivery and return, while remembering that written assurances can also be fraudulent.
Assess the payment proposal
Unexpected instructions to move a conversation off-platform or pay through an unusual method should invite further checking.
Use payment arrangements that provide appropriate buyer safeguards and avoid sharing identity documents without a clear purpose.
Keep a record of the transaction
Save the offer, order confirmation, receipt, seller contact and relevant messages. Contact the platform or payment provider promptly if a problem emerges.
The first task is to protect your account and payment method, not to investigate a supposed seller’s personal identity.
