Invoice and bank-transfer fraud: verify beneficiary changes
Prevent business email compromise and false bank-detail instructions through independent callbacks and approval controls.

What a fraudulent transfer request exploits
An altered invoice or believable supplier message may arrive at the worst possible moment, when a payment is due. The attacker needs the recipient to act before validating the beneficiary.
A genuine email thread is not automatically safe if an account was compromised.
Use a separate confirmation route
Confirm changed bank details through a known contact number or an existing secure portal, not contact information contained in the suspicious instruction.
Make exceptions visible to a second authorised reviewer and keep an audit trail of the decision.
Respond quickly to an incorrect payment
Contact the bank immediately and retain the transaction reference, invoices and correspondence. Ask what action is possible without assuming recovery is guaranteed.
After the incident, review where the approval workflow allowed a single manipulated message to become a payment order.
